Taking a temporary break from the Spaghetti Tree compilations, I've yet again collaborated with Man Erg for this post-rock compilation. I was a massive fan of post-rock during what is now considered the "first wave" of this genre, consisting of releases in the late 1980s to the 1990s. I wasn't such a fan of the more instrumental and generic "second wave" of post-rock, so my interest wained a little bit, though there was the occasional stand out artist which stood out.
This compilation admittedly is more biased towards the 1990s releases but still includes releases up to the present day. For the opening track, I chose Bitch Magnet's "Americruiser" from 1989, which to me was a template for what was to follow, especially Slint's seminal 2nd album "Spiderland" which was released in 1991. The initial inspiration for this collection is the excellent "Monsters, Robots and Bug Men" double CD which was released in 1996, showing the wide range of music which is/was described as post-rock.
Of course there are several artists "missing" from this comp, they'll most probably appear on future volumes, if there's enough interest in this one. The cover art for this mix was provided by Man Erg, so thanks to him for that and for the excellent tracks he chose. As ever, the origin of each track & year of release is tagged in the music files and noted in the download folder. We hope you all enjoy this latest collaboration. Cheers!
